About the Illustrator: Demelsa Haughton
After achieving a BA (Hons) in Fashion Design and Production, Demelsa did the most obvious and straight forward thing – she completely ignored her degree and returned to her first love – painting. However, she did veer into digital media rather than traditional paint and canvas after being intoduced to Photoshop while at university. She now paints digitally with the odd pencil sketch thrown in as a starting point.
As well as private commissions and publishing work, she runs a small business turning her art into giclee prints and greeting cards.
Demelsa is interested in all things magical, supernatural and otherworldly – an early memory that perhaps influenced this was being convinced she had seen a two headed llama at a zoo visit. Embarrassingly, she continued to believe this until well into her teens. It was a sad, sad day when reality became real.
She likes to paint images that create a feeling of magic, and that anything you can imagine is possible. Even two headed llamas.
She has illustrated two picture books with animal rights publisher, Tusk Books, and is excited to join Little Pink Dog Books to illustrate her third.
