About the Author: Sarah Wallace
Sarah Wallace is a writer and book reviewer with a passion for the power of words. Sarah loves writing in all its forms but is especially passionate about children’s literature. She is a children’s book reviewer for Kids’ Book Review and regularly publishes reviews on everything from picture books to middle grade novels to reference books. She is also an active member of SCBWI and CBCA, and was a Roving Reporter at the 2019 SCBWI conference in Sydney.
Sarah’s love of reading and literature has always been a part of her life, and she completed a BA in Literature before discovering an interest in literacy and education. She has spent 18 years working in government education policy and has completed postgraduate studies in early childhood education.
Sarah enjoys sharing her love of stories with her three children and they have helped her reconnect with the special magic of storytelling. She believes children’s books can open whole new worlds for children, as well as help them understand and navigate their own.
About the Illustrator: Lesley McGee
Lesley’s early creative work featured landscape oils and gouache caricatures, but her passion for experimentation has led her to use vibrant pencil, pastel and inks. Texture, light and detail are a dominant feature of her work.
Influenced by the intricate styles of Norman Rockwell, Robert Ingpen, Graeme Base and Frida Kahlo, she also looks to her extensive travel experiences for inspiration.
Currently working on her first commissioned picture book Evie is all Ears, in conjunction with author Kellie Byrnes and Little Pink Dog Books, Lesley is also excited to be working with Little Pink Dog Books on future titles, Night Lights by author Indra Ahmad Zabri, and Emma’s Freckles by author Sarah Wallace.
Future ambitions include an exhibition of a series of cultural portraits and publishing her own picture book featuring the adventurous Milly and a cast of magical creatures.
