About the AuthorPaula Stevenson

Paula Stevenson lives and works on a rural property in the Upper Hunter Valley of NSW, having escaped from the city more than twenty years ago. She writes every day and is inspired by her landscape and environment, writing stories and poems for children about cows, kelpies, roos, echidnas, goannas and even snakes, which occasionally sneak into her house. She is fascinated by bees and passionate about alerting the world to the threats they face.

About the Illustrator: Jenny Hale

Jenny’s illustration career started at age seven with a $5 prize plus a certificate for her mermaid drawing in the children’s section of the Sun-Herald. She progressed to Advertising, where her illustrations sold beer, plush toy wombats, the Paralympics, and baby food. But she’s found greatest creative freedom in illustrating picture books.

Jenny loves planting intriguing little details within her pages — a cheeky duckling hiding, a lost bracelet, a predator shadow lurking — hints at a deeper story for young children to discover. With 20 picture books having sold internationally, her styles vary: from realistic line, to grunge, to sweet and pretty — and of course clamshells-full of her mermaids and fairies.

She’s excited to be illustrating Buster Follows His Nose. From the moment she read this heart-warming tale of devotion, its midnight climax played in her mind like a movie.

Jenny lives with her long-suffering hubbie in the heart of Sydney, a short walk from the Harbour Bridge. Her studio is a long marble table overlooking bushland. Her inspirations are highly alcoholic tiramisu, Tim Tams, and hugs from hubbie. What a glorious life!
